Paphos District
The Paphos district encompasses the West and Northwest region of Cyprus. The popularity of Paphos stems from its sumptuous blend of old and new. Excellent restaurants and amenities are accompanied by a thriving tourist area and lively night life scene, with sandy beaches and water-sports keeping sun lovers constantly entertained thanks to Paphos’ excellent year round climate and calm seas. By contrast the rich variety of historic sites includes the castle, amphitheatre and mosaics by the harbour.

Out and About
Latchi
(30 min drive away)
A quaint fishing harbour lined with some excellent seafood restaurants. This area offers beautiful shingle beaches, ideal for snorkelling and some great nature trails.


Akamas National Park (30 min drive)
Akamas is the peninsula at the westernmost point of Cyprus. It is an area of incomparable natural beauty and an ideal place for walking, cycling, swimming, diving, fishing, exploring, cruising and bird watching.


Lara Bay and Turtle Hatchery (45 min drive)
Lara bay is located in the Akamas National Park and is a protected beach. Turtles hatch here around September time.


The Troodos Mountains (45-90 min drive away)
Troodos is the biggest mountain range of Cyprus, located in the centre of the island. Troodos' highest peak is Mount Olympus at 1,952 metres. Skiing can be enjoyed here during the winter months. The Troodos mountain range stretches across most of the western side of Cyprus. There are many famous mountain resorts, Byzantine monasteries and churches on mountain peaks, and nestling in its valleys and picturesque mountain villages clinging to terraced hill slopes. There are nine churches and one monastery in Troodos that are counted among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites and several other monasteries, of which the Kykkos monastery is the richest and most famous. The area has been known since ancient times for its copper mines, and in the Byzantine period it became a great centre of Byzantine art, as churches and monasteries were built in the mountains, away from the threatened coastline.

There are numerous nature trails organised by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation.


Sample local wines at the village Wineries (20 min drive)
There are several local wineries amongst the Paphos hills where you will have the opportunity to see the wine being made, sample some varieties and purchase the wine if you wish.

Cultural Attractions
Ayios Neophytos Monastery
(25 min drive)
Ayios Neophytos Monastery is located in the Paphos village of Tala and is said to have been founded by a Cypriot hermit and writer called Neophytos in the year 1159. Neophytos carved a home for himself out of the mountain rock and it is here that you will find some of the finest frescoes from the Byzantine period dating from the 12th to the 15th century. The Monastery also incorporates a very interesting ecclesiastical museum.


Kykkos Monastery (90 min drive)
This is the most famous and richest monastery in Cyprus. Founded in 1100 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it owns one of the three surviving icons ascribed to Saint Luke. The museum of Kykkos houses an important collection of consecrated vessels and Cypriot antiquities.


Baths of Aphrodite (60 min drive)
Where the goddess Aphrodite is said to have bathed. There are some lovely nature trails starting here.


Aphrodite’s Rock (25-30 mins)
One of the most beautiful coastal areas of the island, where according to legend the goddess of love Aphrodite is said to have risen from the sea.

Beaches
Coral Bay (15 min bus ride)
One of the best beaches in Paphos, offering white sand and turquoise seas. Lots of the boat cruises stop use this as a stop off point for bathing.

There are 4 18-hole championship standard golf courses in Paphos, all within an easy drive. All courses have the following facilities: Pro shop, putting green, chipping area, driving range, buggy, trolley and club rental, tuition, clubhouse with bar and restaurant.

Designed by Donald Steel. Set amongst orchards and vineyards of a 12th century monastery, nestled in a gentle valley. Altitude of 550m above sea level ensures cool breezes during the summer months.

Elea Golf Club:
Par: 71 (6,194m). Handicap: Men 28, Women 36.
Designed by Sir Nick Faldo. Created by a golfing legend, this course incorporates natural features that not only challenge golfers of all levels, but also evoke a truly Mediterranean feel.
